You can go into your local bank and buy a $25 box of pennies.. the boxes are usually from Brinks and look like this: get some rubber gloves on the way home and a magnifying glass and start searching.. any pennies that you dont keep, just roll up and bring them back to the bank. (preferably a different bank).. any penny before 1982 is made of copper and sells on ebay for as much as 3 cents each. ($50 in pennies can net you between $120-$150 on ebay) .. you can ship these in the "flat rate priority mailer" for approximately $8 .. (up to 75 pounds) I have a few books that I use and some website resources that I use to find the penny varieties.. this site shows you the top 50 penny varieties: www.lincolncentresource.com/Top50.htmlI use this book alot "Strike It Rich With Pocket Change": I also use this book "The Cherrypickers guide to rare die varieties": and this book, the REDBOOK , which is the standard coin price guide: and this one "Guide to Lincoln Cents":

I really enjoy the small led light that you showed me on ebay...which I bought and love it definitely makes penny hunting easier and faster. I also used it to remove a small sliver of glass from a picture frame that some how got into my foot! Without this magnifying glass with the light attached to it....I wouldn't be able to hunt for pennies, or walk. Thanks Joey

It's lots of fun! My 12 year old daughter and I go through some pennies in the evenings when we are just hanging out and don't really have anything else to do. The magnifying light works wonders and was only around $6 with free shipping on ebay. Joey is right, get gloves!! I didn't think of it at first and within minutes my hands were so dirty!! Plus, if you don't find anything or change your mind, you didn't lose any money...just take the pennies back to the bank. So it's a risk free adventure!!

So I have been going through my $25 penny box and have found that about 25% of the pennies I have are pre 1982. Right now I am just separating them out then when I have a pile of special dates (1984, 1992, 1998, 1999, and 2000) I look over them more closely to see if they have the wide AM, close AM or double ear I haven't found any yet but it's been kinda fun and I'm hoping that I'll find some soon!!
